Kayfabe Monday--May 17th Edition

So TNA has signed a new Knockout...

TNA Wrestling has signed female worker and Team 3D Academy student Mary Kate Duignan. Duignan, who is known on the independent scene as Betsy Ruth and Miss Betsy Rosie, worked a tryout match against Daffney prior to the April 20th TNA IMPACT! taping from Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida.

It's interesting Duignan was signed as she badly injured Daffney after a botched bonsai drop that crushed the fellow TNA Knockout.

Daffney was hospitalized following the spot with a bruised sternum and a severe stinger that left her with temporary spinal trauma. She did not suffer any nerve damage. The injury delayed the start of the iMPACT! taping.

First I want to show you her picture:

Now I am glad that TNA signed a girl that is not a thin waif like Angelina Love (no offense) but do you remember when TNA signed Mickie Lee Knuckles? Mickie Lee Knuckles is a professional wrestler who has worked for a number of major independent promotions, including IWA Mid-South, Chikara, IWA East Coast, Chickfight, wXw Germany, Full Throttle Wrestling, Pro Wrestling Unplugged and CZW.. She also worked for Total Nonstop Action Wrestling under the name Moose. She is most notable for her hard-hitting style and inter-gender deathmatches. I want to tell you a little bit more about her career.

Mickie has been a fan of wrestling since the age of 5. After seeing a Bubble Bath match at IWA Mid-South's Eyes Wide Open show between Holly Wood and Paige, she introduced herself to Ian Rotten and his wife Patti who suggested that she should train to be a wrestler. Mickie started her training under Ian Rotten and Chris Hero, at the same time working security and refereeing for IWA shows. Mickie became the final graduating student of the Ian Rotten Wrestling School, and would go on to wrestle against Ian in his retirement match.

Mickie's debut match was August 2, 2003 in a non-tournament match at the 2003 King of the Death Match against Hailey Hatred. During the match Hailey powerbombed Mickie across two bridged steel chairs. Mickie's neck hit the back of the chairs, causing the match to be stopped. Undeterred, in November 2003, Mickie was booked into the Ted Petty Invitational tournament, losing to Ian Rotten in the first round, but becoming the first woman to be booked in either the IWA Mid-South Sweet Science Sixteen Tournament or the TPI.

Mickie continued to have intergender matches against wrestlers such as Cash Flo and Nate Webb, before Ian Rotten and Dave Prazak began to bring in more women to IWA Mid South and their women's division was formed. In May 2004 a tournament was held to crown the first NWA Midwest/IWA Mid-South Women's Championship, during which Mickie advanced to the semi finals before being defeated by Mercedes Martinez. One of her fellow entrants in the tournament, Traci Brooks, stated that she had "never seen a girl train as hard" as Mickie. Mickie won the NWA Midwest/IWA Mid-South Women's Championship on June 11, 2005 defeating MsChif and Alison Danger in a three-way match. However, six days later NWA Midwest promoter Ed Chuman declared that the title match had been unsanctioned and returned NWA Midwest title to MsChif. Ian Rotten however still recognized Mickie as the IWA Mid-South Women's Champion, leading to the titles splitting into two separate entities.

As such Mickie became the IWA Mid-South Women's Champion, keeping the title for 5 months before losing it to her first ever opponent Hailey Hatred, on the 18th of November 2005. Mickie would win the title back at an IWA East Coast event in February 2006, and held on to it until July 2007 before losing it to Chuck Taylor in controversial fashion, since Chuck is in fact a man. Mickie earned an IWA Mid-South Heavyweight Championship match against Chuck, but was met with disapproval from Chuck who stated that if he had to put up his title against a female, than the female should also put her title on the line as well. Mickie agreed and was defeated by Chuck who then became the men's and women's champion. Less than a month later, Mickie won back her title by defeating Taylor in a No Count out /Falls Count Anywhere match to regain the Women's Championship for a third time.

Mickie's third title reign ended on May 2, 2008 in a triple threat match when she was defeated by Daizee Haze. The match also included Sara Del Rey.

Before receiving a rematch for the IWA Women's Championship Mickie broke her femur in her right leg On July 6, 2008 after a bad landing from a flying cross body off a platform onto Sara Del Rey, during the main event of the IWA Mid-South Summertime Black & Blues 2008 show in Joliet, Illinois. This injury happened just weeks after Mickie signed a contract to compete with TNA, Total Nonstop Action Wrestling. Mickie made her IWA-MS return early January in a winning effort against Kimberly Kash
King of the Death Match Tournament

After losing to Ian Rotten, in a Fans Bring the Weapons Match in the 2006 tournament, Mickie once again was booked in the King of the Death Match Tournament in 2007, being the only woman to ever be booked for the show on multiple occasions.

On Night One, Mickie Knuckles beat Tank in a Barbed Wire ropes & Barbed Wire Baseball Bat Death Match, however she was defeated on Night Two in the quarter finals by Brain Damage in another Fans Bring the Weapons Match.

At the inaugural Queen of the Death Match tournament in November, 2006 an announcement was made to open the show that LuFisto would not be performing due to breaking her hand punching Necro Butcher during the finals of the Stranglehold KOTDM tournament show. In the first round, Mickie beat Ann Thraxx in an Unlucky 13 Staple Gun Death Match, and went on to defeat Rachel Putski in the semi-final in a Taipei Death Match. This put Mickie through to the final where she defeated Mayumi Ozaki in a No Rope Barbed Wire, Fans Bring The Weapons Steel Cage Death Match to become the first ever IWA Mid-South Queen of the Death Match. However, following match, LuFisto and Vanessa Kraven entered the cage and beat Mickie down, leading to Mickie swearing revenge against LuFisto.

The second Queen of the Death Match tournament show was held in October, 2007 and this time LuFisto was able to make her booking. Mickie was beaten in a first round Barbed Wire Ropes & Barbed Wire Baseball Bat Death Match after being pinned by Storm, however she was victorious in the Semi Final Losers Bracket, defeating B.B. Walls in a Barbed Wire Ropes & Deathmatch Bats match; following that with a victory over Roxie Cotton in a Barbed Wire Ropes & Taipei Death Match in the loser’s bracket final. This set up the final fight of LuFisto vs Mickie Knuckles in a No Rope Barbed Wire & Electrified Light Tubes Death Match in which LuFisto defeated Mickie.

In October 2005, Mickie was booked in the Chickfight 3 tournament show in Hayward, California. After defeating Tiffany in the first round, and Hailey Hatred in the second, Mickie lost out in the final to returning champion Mariko Yoshida.

Mickie has also been booked on a number of occasions for Chikara, making her debut as a Tag Team partner for Eddie Kingston in the Tag World Grand Prix 2005. Later that year she was booked in the Young Lions Cup 3, becoming the first female wrestler to do so. Mickie would go on to work for Chikara on several more occasions, including teaming up with her mentor Ian Rotten for the Tag World Grand Prix 2006. In fact, a six-woman Tag match featuring Mickie was one of only 9 matches chosen for inclusion on the Best of Chikara DVD released in 2007.

In mid-2008 Mickie made her debut with Total Nonstop Action Wrestling. She appeared on the June 5 edition of TNA Impact!, coming to The Beautiful People's aid by attacking Gail Kim, O.D.B., and Roxxi. It was later announced that she would be in a tag match with The Beautiful People to go against the team of Kim, Roxxi, and ODB at Slammiversary 2008. At the show, her name was changed to Moose; they lost the match when ODB pinned her.

Mickie signed a contract with Total Nonstop Action Wrestling and made her Impact! in-ring debut on the June 26 edition, with a victory over ODB in a Bimbo Brawl, then subsequently defeating Roxxi in the same variety of match the next week.

Later that week, at an IWA-MS show, Mickie jumped and broke her leg, taking her out of action for a long while, and has since been removed from the TNA Roster page.

Thanks to Online World of Wrestling for all of this information.

So what is my point? My point is this--YOU ALREADY HAD A GIRL WITH AN AMAZING ACCOMPLISHED CAREER and from what I understand, is better. Her leg is healed. Why not go back and re-sign her? Mickie has a cult following as a lot of wrestlers from Ian Rotten's IWA Mid South do. Look at NecroButcher for example. It seems this Mary Kate Duignan girl is only known for being a graduate from Team 3D Academy and on the internet webshow Wrestlicious Takedown and hurt Daffney during her tryout. Personally, if I was trying out to be part of a national company with a television deal, I would try my best to NOT INJURE the current roster because that means harmony in the locker room if I was signed. Then again, that is just my way of thinking. I seriously hope that the reason why they signed this girl is to keep Bubba Ray and D-Von around, but most of the time they are wrestling in Japan, so why does it matter if they are still part of TNA Wrestling?

As always, I believe in Kayfabe.

P.S.: The Wrestling Observer is reporting that Sean Waltman's last appearance on TNA Impact, where he was laid out, was reportedly his final appearance with TNA for the time being. It is expected that Eric Young will now serve as Waltman's replacement in The Band. Let me just say that this behaviour from Waltman was expected and predictable. Do not let the door hit you where the Good Lord split you, Sean.

  2. FYI, Wrestlicious is not an "Internet WebShow"
It is bona fide television show, on 200 stations
and Dish Network and many cable companies including Comcast.

  3. If it is on Comcast, which I have, then they do an awful job of advertising it as I had no idea. I only know of Wrestlicious Takedown from the Internet.

  4. Could it be that the reason TNA signed Mary Kate is that she is considerably more attractive than Mickie Knuckles?

TNA gets the credit for signing a "big" girl wrestler, with the added benefit that she is viewed as hot by at least a segment of the audience.

  5. I'd be quite happy if Mickie Knuckles snapped her leg again and had to retire.

If you want to know why, just google "Mike Levy Incident".
