Tackle Tuesday--March 9th Edition

As I sit here with a broken foot, this story I read just made me go "what were you thinking?" Look at what I put in bold in the article followed by my comments in parentheses:

MIAMI -- Free agent Jason Ferguson, a veteran nose tackle most recently with the Miami Dolphins, has been suspended for the first eight games of next season for violating NFL policy on performance-enhancing substances.

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello confirmed on Sunday that the discipline was handed down late this week but could offer no further details. Ferguson was also suspended for violating NFL drug policy in 1999(you would think that this would have smartened him up...but no....), sitting out four games after an anabolic steroid showed up during a urine test.

The player's agent, Jimmy Sexton, did not return a call Sunday seeking comment.

Ferguson was sidelined with a season-ending quadriceps injury in November and underwent surgery a month later. The 35-year-old had been in on 23 tackles in nine games for the Dolphins last season. Coach Tony Sparano called him a "heck of a player" at the time of his injury.

A Dolphins spokesman, Harvey Greene, said Ferguson remained a free agent and had not signed a new contract.

"We won't comment because he's not officially on our roster," Greene said. The team has not said whether they planned to re-sign Ferguson for next season.

Ferguson was drafted in 1997, playing eight seasons with the New York Jets and three with the Dallas Cowboys before joining Miami in 2008. He has 325 career tackles.

Ferguson tested positive for marijuana at the scouting combine in 1997
(so first suspension then again 1999 and now again...dude does not learn his lesson). During his 1999 suspension, he passionately denied taking steroids, saying he used a dietary supplement, which he would not identify, but that contained no banned substances.

"People are thinking I'm a drug addict or something like that, and that's ridiculous," Ferguson said at the time. "I read bottles and I know steroids. I didn't take no damn steroids."

Why did I mention the broken foot again? Easy--I am not a athlete and I am "roughing it" meaning I am taking the proper medical care. Will I miss work? Most definitely but I am getting paid A LOT LESS than these guys are. If someone who is getting paid significantly less than you are and can afford to be out of work for close to 3 months and is missing out on her livelihood, I think you can as well. I am just saying...

Kayfabe Monday--March 8, 2010 Edition

In honor of Womens History Month, WWE has produced this video: http://www.wwe.com/content/media/video/vms/divas/2010/february22-28/13629750

For those of you that know me outside of the Internetsphere of the world know that I am a major fan of Women's Wrestling. It seems that true womens wrestling is on the upturn as there are companies forming in the United States that showcase just that--WRESTLING. Companies from Shimmer Wrestling in Illnois to Womens Superstars Unleashed in the Northeast to La Lucha Femil in Mexico and now Wrestlelicious, people are starting to take notice...FINALLY.

Unfornuately, there are still the opponents of it, the "anti-feminism" viewpoints of wrestling.

I made these two videos to get people to watch TNA Impact on Thursday nights on SPIKE before the big move to Monday nights. I will admit I used the "sex sells" policy in them but I want you to take a look at them:

One of the comments dealt with Awesome Kong that said and I quote verbatim "yeah.....Awesome Kong is an obese ugly knockout and she will knock you out...WHEN YOU LOOK AT HER B/C SHE IS THAT DAMN UGLY" Instead of looking at her skill, her training (she is originally from Japan which womens wrestling is revered) and her ring psychology and went straight for her looks. As the old cliche' says "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder." but that is not the point of this blog.

Why is it that when we watch men wrestle it is all about skill, talent, ring psychology, where he was trained and so forth but when it comes to women who wrestle it is all about how big her boobs are, how her makeup is done, and who did she sleep with to get to where she is. We as a wrestling community need to be equal when judging who we like and who we do not like--not based on looks but based on skill. Until we do that, it seems that womens wrestling will never be in the same spotlight as mens wrestling in the United States.

As always I welcome your thoughts.

I BELIEVE IN KAYFABE.

Things I Love Thursday--March 4th Edition

Ahhh the beginning of Spring...let me be the first to welcome to the lovely month of MARCH when snow begins to melt, trees begin to bloom, weather starts to warm, and my birthday all encompass. Now let us move on to this weeks TiLT!

On this Thursday March 4, 2010 I heart....

--The fact I was laid off/terminated from Saint Peters College: Okay I know what you are thinking "You are happy that you were fired?" and the answer is YES. While SPC will always be in my heart and I still have lots of love for my alma mater (Got my bachelors and masters degrees from there), working 12 hours a day was really taking a toll on my creative spirit and energy. I come home at 330pm now and have practically the entire day to do what I want whether it is writing, doodling, taking a nap, or playing with my dogs. I love it a lot!

--Found out this yummy news from Gala Darling back in February--DARIA IS COMING TO DVD! I added it to my Amazon wish list which can be found here--http://www.amazon.com/wishlist/3LPE04IHXWXJK

--Another thing from Gala: She has a new header on her website and she included my phrase TWO THOUSAND AND AMEN in it. It made me all fuzzy and warm on the inside.

--Marathons of Silent Library on MTV. Wish I was 28 years old so I could be a part of it. What is this show I speak of? It is a Japanese game show. Object of the show--everyone gets a card and if you get the card that has a skull and crossbones, you have to do a punishment. If you do the punishment and your team stays quiet, since you are in a library, you get money! First round is $300, second round is $400, third round is $800 and final round is $1,000. Except for the final round, all three rounds have 3 punishments. They finally started using girl contestants!

--My favorite new drink which is Pomegranate juice and seltzer water. It is great when I am craving a soda yet it is good for you! I also add pomegranate juice to apple juice for a refreshing juice cocktail.

--Editing my Netflix list since I have lots of time now for movies!

--Working out my finances with David who is very savvy when it comes to money.

--Getting a week reprieve of sports fandom.

--Warm apple slices with raisins, walnuts, and honey. Nice healthy dessert!

--Getting diet ideas from my favorite chef Alton Brown

--That my phenomenal fiance' David calls me to just say sweet dreams.

--My broken foot. Why would I love that you ask? All of the constant attention!

So what are you loving this week?

Awe Wednesday--March 3rd Edition

I got this great book called The Awe-manac: A Daily Dose of Wonder by Jill Badonsky. To copy the product description from Amazon.com, it states and I quote verbatim--A playfully practical guide that’s a refreshing twist on the revered Farmer’s Almanac, The Awe-Manac provides daily forecasts and directives to help readers make life more creative, amusing, gratifying, and extraordinary—every day of the year! Through 365 days, readers are encouraged to think more brilliantly, laugh more often, make art or write creatively, and simply add a lot more “awe” into daily life.

Brimming with Jill Badonsky’s colorful, whimsical art, and filled with fun features like “Soul Vitamins,” “GlumBusters,” “Daily Toasts,” and “Doses of Mirth,” The Awe-Manac will be an enchanting “companion” throughout the year—a perennial guide that invites its readers to find the joy and amusement in every day.

Just to let everyone know, I am starting this Wednesday feature from the very first journal juju I wrote--on January 1st, 2010 in my paper journal.

So on January 1st, I wrote in my paper journal this "There is no way I can anticipate all the good things that are going to happen this year."

Today's Aha-phrodisiac is this: Write a list of why I write. Well this is why I write.
--To release any angry thoughts.
--To release thoughts going on in my mind
--To remember important info
--To collect moments
--To collect memories
--To feel creative
--To make myself feel better
--To keep my degree of English in motion
--To keep my friends who read my online journal in the loop
--To keep my muses happy

That is all I can come up with. So why do you write or do art? If you do not at this moment, would you want to? Why?

Your Daily Soul Vitamin: I write for the same reason I breathe--because if I didn't, I would die."--Isaac Asimov

Tackle Tuesday: March 2, 2010 Edition

Baseball season is in full effect and with talks of injuries and who is starting and when; the use of steroids and family members building graves for their loved ones, it was nice to see this story:

Joe Torre, Sandy Koufax chat

Source: Associated Press

LOS ANGELES -- The story line was a simple one: two guys from Brooklyn talking baseball.

Joe Torre invited Sandy Koufax to visit with him and talk about their lives playing a game as a way to raise money for his Safe At Home Foundation to combat domestic abuse.

But the Dodgers manager didn't think the reclusive Koufax would come.

"Sandy's not comfortable with this stuff," Torre told his wife, Ali.

Only Koufax did show up.

"It gave me goosebumps," Torre said of the sold-out crowd of 7,100 at Nokia Theater, which included the likes of Ron Howard, Billy Crystal, Penny Marshall and Jon Lovitz and raised more than $750,000.

"Where'd you go," sportswriter T.J. Simers asked the 74-year-old Hall of Famer Koufax, who retired from the game at the age of 30 and was returning for one of his rare public appearances.

"I went home," Koufax said, later explaining that it was something his grandfather taught him that has kept him out of the limelight.

"Your most precious asset is time," Koufax said. "Spend your money foolishly, spend your time wisely."

And the reason he came back?

"Joe Torre," Koufax said.

"It's about friendship, a very special friendship," said Torre, 69, of Koufax, even though the two were never teammates.

Both talked of the moments that made them. For Koufax, who had a 36-41 record as an occasional starter until 1961, it was Gil Hodges telling him he'd have to go eight innings after two pitchers missed the plane for a B-team spring training game.

Koufax decided to ease up on what had been an uncontrollable fastball to be sure he made it the eight innings, which he did, without allowing a hit.

"A lightbulb went on," said Koufax, who would go on to pitch four no-hitters in his Dodgers career.

Torre, a former National League MVP almost certain to be named to the Hall of Fame for his managing career, spoke of how it all turned around for him at the age of 55 with the 1996 Yankees after he'd been fired by Atlanta, the New York Mets and St. Louis.

He'd been the No. 4 man on a list that saw Tony La Russa, Davey Johnson and Sparky Anderson all say no.

"I knew I was going to find out if I could manage," Torre said.

At least they are some baseball players out there with a heart....

Kayfabe Monday--March 1, 2010 Edition

As the world knows, a lot of professional wrestlers have their own demons to face. They are still human beings. Whether it is drugs, alcohol, steroids, mental illness, or anything in particular--they are still human beings

On November 13, 2005, the wrestling world lost one of the most charismatic and skilled professional wrestlers the world has ever seen--EDDIE GUERRERO. I still can not watch any videos featuring him as tears start to flow. I remember sitting in my house with my old desktop; David and my brother sitting in another room watching a football and all of the sudden I screamed out "EDDIE GUERRERO DIED!" Both of them rushed into the room I was in with the jaws in their hands. It was something we did not want to believe. But after reading reports, it was tragically true.

Wrestling shows around the United States did the right thing by hosting ten bell salutes as well as memorial shows. One of the websites I go to frequently--www.NoDQ.com posted this video and I feel Combat Zone Wrestling did the right thing.

What do you think? Would love to hear your thoughts.

In other wrestling news, as most of you are aware, Hurricane Helms, Paul Burchill, and Maria Kannelis were cut from the WWE on Friday February 26th. Let the cuts begin! I predict Hurricane Helms and Paul to be in TNA on May 27th while Maria goes on and promotes her music career. You can listen to a preview of her single "Fantasy" here--http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_APuPkYpryM

Personally I like Mickie James' single "Are You With Me?" better, and I consider myself a rock and roll girl. Here is Mickies' single:

As always I ask your thoughts--which is better at singing Maria or Mickie James? Until next Monday...remember...

I BELIEVE IN KAYFABE.
